Congrats are in Order

On friday the new group of volunteers swore in as official volunteers.  The B27s they are called.  Sometimes I feel like there are all these hopes put on us, and then we have to figure out what our superpowers actually are.  What does it mean to be a new or an old volunteer.  Old volunteers are supposed to know better.  We are supposed to have it all figured out and know how Peace Corps and the system works.  The funny thing is, I have been here a year and I feel like I have only gotten my feet wet.  Two years isn’t enough to change the world.  Two years are enough to change a few people.  And maybe, just maybe that is the lesson we are supposed to learn in the first year.  That true change isn’t massive, it’s a lot of small change that will grow.  Maybe, as volunteers we are just the fertilizer into a much larger plant.  I hope that is true, then that at least gives me some sort of purpose.

On a more personal note, my brother graduates high school today.  It make me miss my family that I am not able to see this, but since he is attending University of Michigan, I know that I will have to

suffer though a four-hour long graduation ceremony in a few years.  So I guess all is fair.  I just hope that my bro finds happiness in his twenties and doesn’t go through all the hardships, struggles and scary stuff that I had to.  But maybe all the crap brought me to a better place.
